Look Where You Want to Go

When I first embarked on my journey in cycling nearly a decade ago, I was plagued by an overwhelming fear of hitting obstacles such as trees, rocks, and potholes. My initial reaction was to stare directly at these hazards, thinking that doing so would somehow help me avoid them. However, the opposite proved true; every time I focused intently on what I didn’t want to hit, I inevitably crashed into it. This pattern only reinforced my belief that I needed to be hyper-vigilant and excessively cautious to stay safe.

But there came a point where I realized something crucial: if you look at an obstacle as though it’s the end of the world, your body will react accordingly, leading you straight towards it. It wasn’t until I started looking ahead instead of down that I found myself effortlessly gliding past obstacles without incident. This shift in perspective allowed me to maintain control and composure even when navigating challenging terrain.

This experience taught me a valuable lesson: our focus dictates where we end up. Just as cyclists should look towards their destination rather than the potential pitfalls, people in all walks of life can benefit from this principle. Whether you’re dealing with personal issues or professional challenges, your mindset plays a pivotal role in determining how smoothly you navigate through them.
